For those of you who do not know them, Syncsort is a provider of specialist software around data management and data protection to both enterprises and SMB sized organisation, and certainly seem to produce some cool technology.

Syncsort Backup Express (BEX) utilises its own innovative business continuity technology to enable administrators to gain near-immediate access to any of many full server-level Exchange recovery points. This multi-purpose exchange snapshot is the result of routine disk-to-disk, block level, incremental Exchange backups. The near-immediate access, called BEX Instant Availability, is achieved by LUN mapping from a non-MSX production server on the network to the created snapshot. Although no data is transferred to the production server, the snapshot appears as a normal local Windows drive.

Once access to the backed-up Exchange Database (.edb) image is acquired, a powerful Exchange mailbox recovery wizard is activated. This allows the administrator to scan and search the massive .edb file, even to read the individual messages and attachments. The administrator then merely drags individual items to a production drive on an Exchange server and the mailbox or message level restore is achieved.
